The railways (access) code 2000 requires the economic regulation authority to make an annual determination, as at 30 june, of the wacc to be applied when calculating the costs for each of the rail networks covered under schedule 1 of the code. In accordance with the requirements of the code, the authority has calculated the 2017 real pre-tax wacc for specific rail networks as follows— • 4.35 per cent for the public transport authority urban rail network. • 7.52 per cent for the brookfield rail freight rail network. • 10.56 per cent for the pilbara railways (the pilbara infrastructure and the roy hill infrastructure). The 2017 wacc applies for the period 1 july 2017 to 30 june 2018.
