parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Minister for Transport's recent claim
that a bus rapid transit system to replace the Metro Area Express light rail
was estimated to cost $1.2 billion.
(1) What
advice has the Minister for Transport received about the estimated cost of a
BRT, and who provided that advice?
(2) Did the advice also provide an estimate of the operating
costs of a BRT compared with light rail?
(3) If yes to (2), what was the estimated cost for each
option?
(4) Is the estimated cost of $1.2 billion for the full
22-kilometre route of the MAX proposal?
(5) If no to (4), what route does it cover?

of Transport. As a consequence of that report, work will be done over the next
12 months to further examine the matter.
