SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE
840. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer the minister to the WA
government's school dental service.
(1) Are any of the SDS operations
running at reduced capacity?
(a) If yes to (1), can the minister
please identify the locations or schools?
(b) If yes to (1), why is that?
(2) What is the current average
waiting period for an appointment at an SDS?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following has been provided by the Minister
for Health.
(1) The SDS's reduced capacity is primarily
due to recruitment challenges for dental practitioners. Dental Health Services
has been actively recruiting new clinical staff. When required, locum dental
officers are being utilised to address
vacancies. In addition, Perth-based DHS dental officers and therapists are
deployed from their existing clinics to provide short-term care in
country locations. The rest of the answer to this question is in tabular form.
I seek leave to incorporate it into Hansard .
