(1) Will the minister confirm that the Rockingham-Kwinana District Hospital has been forced to slash booked elective surgery by between 15 and 25 per cent for the foreseeable future? (2) Is the minister aware that the hospital is blaming this reduction on a cut in Central Wait List Bureau funding? (3) Is the minister also aware that local doctors are demanding to know why their own patients cannot be treated at the Rockingham-Kwinana District Hospital, which is the hospital closest to where they live, but can be operated on at the Peel or Joondalup Health Campuses? (4) Is it not the case that the minister is bleeding our metropolitan public hospitals of Central Wait List Bureau funding to prop up Peel and Joondalup? Mr DAY

(1)-(4) Obviously, the hospital at which people can have their elective surgery completed depends on the capacity that is available in the system. If people can have their surgery done earlier at Peel, Joondalup, Rockingham, Swan District Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, or whatever the case may be, it is entirely appropriate that they be given that option. I am aware that the Government made a decision the other day to provide funds to construct a facility that will accommodate 30 additional beds at Rockingham-Kwinana District Hospital. That is very good news for people in the southern metropolitan area and the fast-growing area of Rockingham in particular. In the same way, it is very good news for the people of the Midland electorate and the Swan Health Service region in particular that they will have access to the 40 additional beds at Swan District Hospital. Similarly, it is good news that 30 beds will be located and funded at Osborne Park Hospital. The reality is that this Government is expanding the public hospital system substantially. The waiting times and the number of people waiting for elective surgery across the metropolitan area are lower than they have been for years.
