In relation to the Public Transport Authority (PTA) budget I ask:
(a) what is the PTA budget for building and maintaining bus shelters during the 2011–2012 financial year;
(b) what was the PTA budget for building and maintaining bus shelters for the:
(i) 2008–2009 budget year;
(ii) 2009–2010 budget year; and
(iii) 2010–2011 budget year;
(c) how many bus shelters were built in the 2011–2012 financial year;
(d) how much does it cost to install a bus shelter; and
(e) what is the cost of a bus shelter over its life?

The Public Transport Authority advises:
(a) Responsibility for the maintenance of bus shelters rests with Local Government Authorities. The Public Transport Authority manages the Bus Shelter Grants Scheme which provides $500 000 per annum to Local Government Authorities on a 50/50 shared basis for the construction of bus shelters.
(b)  Please see the answer provided for part (a).
(i - iii)  Please see the answer provided for part (a).
(c)  Funding for sixty three bus shelters have been provided to date to Local Government Authorities under the Bus Shelter Grants Scheme.
(d)  Dependent upon the location and type of bus shelter installed.
(e)  Unknown as Local Government Authorities are responsible for the maintenance of bus shelters.
