CONSTABLE RYAN MARRON
86. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I ask a supplementary question.
Ryan, his wife and his brother have flights booked to Chicago on Monday, which
is a 30hour flight. Ryan is booked into the institute for two months. Will the
Premier give them any certainty before next Monday as to whether they can stay
for the entirety of the time necessary for Constable Marron's
rehabilitation so they have an absolute understanding of where they stand?

We expect to get the reports back
this week.
Mr
M.P. Murray : You paid for Claire Murray and you won't pay for one
of your own boys. What a disgrace!
Mr
M.P. Whitely interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Bassendean, I formally call you to order for the first
time today. Member for Collie–Preston, I formally call you to order for
the first time today.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : The issue has already been discussed in cabinet. There have
been a lot of discussions between the police minister and the health minister
that we act in his best welfare, particularly right now, and offer the best
medical assistance that he can receive. We will deal with this but I will not
negotiate across Parliament with the Leader of the Opposition on this. I think
Constable Marron deserves greater respect than that. This government will give
him that respect.
Opposition members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Girrawheen, I formally call you to order for the first
time today. Member for Nollamara, I formally call you to order for the first
time today. I would imagine that most members in this place are familiar with
the case and would have some respect for the issue. That is what I am asking
all of you to have.
Mr C.J. BARNETT : In conclusion, through the Minister for
Police, the Minister for Health and, if necessary, the Attorney General, we
will deal directly with Ryan Marron's fiance and his family; we will
do the right thing. I do not think the Leader of the Opposition does service to
this Parliament by seeking a political advantage out of a tragic situation.
The SPEAKER : Member for Scarborough.
Several opposition members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for Mandurah, you can see I am on my
feet. I formally call the member for Pilbara for the first time, and I will
formally call you for the second time. The question has finished; I have given
the call to the member for Scarborough.
