WITTENOOM STEERING COMMITTEE
41. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the
Minister for Lands:
I refer to the former Department of Regional Development and
Lands' reconvening of the Wittenoom Steering Committee in December
2012.
(1) Does the Wittenoom Steering Committee or a similar
body still exist; and, if yes, who comprises that committee?
(2) If yes to (1), can the minister please list how many
times the committee met from —
(a) 2013 to 2016; and
(b) 2017 to 2020?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) If yes to (1), is it still considering paragraphs 1(b)
and (c) of the original terms of reference?
(5) If yes to (4), has it reached a conclusion on those terms
of reference?

I thank the member for the question. The following
information has been provided to me by the Minister for Lands.
(1) Yes. The
Wittenoom Steering Committee consists of members from the Department of
Planning, Lands and Heritage, and that representative is the chair; the
Department of the Premier and Cabinet; the Department of Mines, Industry
Regulation and Safety; the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation;
the Department of Health; the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and
Innovation; and the Shire of Ashburton.
(2) The committee met —
(a) twice in 2013–16; and
(b) three times in 2017–20.
(3) Not applicable.
(4)–(5)
The terms of reference are unchanged and it is considered that a conclusion
will not be reached for some time due to the complexities and costs associated
with the legacy of the Wittenoom mine.
