I refer to the State Government providing financial support to Broome’s Shinju Matsuri community festival that was held from 10–18 September 2011, and I ask:
(a) would the Minister please itemise the Royalties for Regions funding provided to the Shinju Matsuri community festival;
(b) how much Royalties for Regions funding was provided to the Shinju Matsuri community festival in 2010;
(c) what cost analysis has been done to show the economic benefit of the Shinju Matsuri festival to Broome;
(d) what was the expected economic benefit to Broome for the Shinju Matsuri festival;
(e) how many visitors attended the Shinju Matsuri festival in 2011 and how many people were from:
(i) Broome;
(ii) Perth metropolitan region;
(iii) regional Western Australia;
(iv) interstate; and
(v) international; and
(f) how did the 2011 visitor numbers compare to the 2010 Shinju Matsuri festival visitor numbers?

(a) Royalties for Regions funding was provided to the Shinju Matsuri community festival through the Regional Events Scheme which is administered by Tourism Western Australia.Further information should be sought from the Minister for Tourism.
(b) Nil.
(c) Based on advice from Tourism Western Australiaan event feasibility assessment was conducted on the event proposal provided by Shinju Matsuri Inc.  Further information should be sought from the Minister for Tourism.
(d) Based on advice provided by Tourism Western Australiathe estimated economic benefit to Broome for the event was assessed as $990 000. Further information should be sought from the Minister for Tourism.
(e)(i) - (v) I am not in a position to provide you with this information as the event holder is still compiling final attendance numbers for Eventscorp at Tourism Western Australia. Further information should be sought from the Minister for Tourism when it is made available.
(f) Advice provided by Tourism Western Australia indicates that based on informal research supplied by the event holder, the 2010 event had a total estimated attendance of over 12 000 for the various events associated with the festival. Further information should be sought from the Minister for Tourism.
