RONALD ROWLES — PRISONER ESCAPE
Don’t become a comedian, mate! I have a supplementary question. On a number of occasions in this house, the minister has defended his department’s prisoner risk assessment process, yet a child sex offender went fishing unsupervised in Wyndham, and now a minimum-security prisoner has allegedly robbed a bank. When is the minister going to fix this disgraceful situation, which I keep raising in this house with him — The SPEAKER : Member for Cockburn, I think you are stretching the bounds of credibility if that is a supplementary question. I will give the minister the opportunity to answer, if he so desires, but I am going to rule it out of order. Mr D.T. REDMAN

I think I will make some comments. There is no doubt that in a department like the Department of Corrective Services, where we are managing some 4 700 prisoners and similar numbers in the community corrections area, judgements and assessments are made on prisoner security risk right through the process. That is clear, and it was the same when the opposition was in government and had a role in ensuring that good processes were in place. This government’s record on escapes is a sound one. If we go back over the past five years — Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Minister, I rule this question out of order. You have taken the opportunity to respond and I have tolerated it for some time. I am going to move to another question.
