I refer to reported comments made to
The Weekend Australian
by Mr Andrew Whitechurch, a senior banking official with National Australia Bank (NAB) in Western Australia, regarding the State’s deepening housing shortage and his concerns that there is going to be a major housing crisis in Western Australia, and ask:
(a) does the Government have an assessment of the number of homes that will need to be constructed in the years 2009–2010, 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 to accommodate the anticipated population growth;
(b) if yes to (a), what is the Government’s assessment of the number of homes that will need to be constructed in the years 2009–2010, 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 to keep pace with population growth;
(c) if no to (a), why not;
(d) if yes to (a), does the Government also have an assessment of the surplus or shortfall in housing in each of the years 2009–2010, 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 to meet the needs of future population growth;
(e) if yes to (d), what is the assessed surplus or shortfall in housing for each of the years; and
(f) if no to (d), why not?
