Wilful murder ceased to be an offence on 1 August 2008 as a result of the
Criminal Law Amendment (Homicide) Act 2008
(WA). A number of wilful murder charges were still to be dealt with in court after this date. The sentence received for all people convicted of wilful murder between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2016 was life imprisonment.
