Firearms Act—Portal
907. Hon Phil Twiss to
the minister representing the Minister for Police:
I refer to comments
made by Hon Dr Katrina Stratton on 16 October during a Channel Seven interview
on the release of report 51 into the Firearms Act
2024 by the Standing Committee on Legislation.
(1) Was Hon Dr Katrina Stratton correct in saying,
"The original plan was for the portal to be ready in 2026"?
(2) Was Hon Dr Katrina Stratton correct in her
statement during the same interview that, "… almost by definition,
the portal wasn't going to be ready"?
(3) If yes to (1) or (2), was the Commissioner of
Police made aware of the government's decision to declare the bill urgent even
though the relevant system was not in place to implement it?
(4) Is the minister aware of the hardship and
exasperation caused to thousands of firearms owners as a result of the
incomplete implementation of the system?
(5) Will the minister publicly apologise to
licensed firearm owners for the disruption caused to them by this system?
