Corrective Services—Biological males—Women's prisons
96. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the
answer to question without notice 248 asked on Tuesday 27 May 2025, when I was
told zero biological males were being placed in women's prisons, and to the
article published in The West Australian on
7 February 2026 reporting that a biological male was jailed in Bandyup
Women's Prison.
(1) On what date was the man referred to
in the article first placed in Bandyup Women's Prison?
(2) If this placement occurred before 27
May 2025, can the minister explain why I was advised in response to the question
without notice that no biological males had been placed in women's prisons in
Western Australia?
(3) How many biological males in total
have been placed in women's prisons in Western Australia since November 2025?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The answer has been provided to me by the
Attorney General.
(1)–(3) I thank the member for the question;
however, the question should be directed to the Minister for Corrective
Services, as the minister responsible for the operation of Western Australia's
prisons.
