POLICE —
VACANT POSITIONS — SOUTH WEST REGION
557. Hon ADELE FARINA to the Attorney General representing
the Minister for Police:
I refer to the minister's answer to my question
without notice 527 asked on 15 August 2012, in particular, the minister's
answer that there are only nine full-time equivalent police vacancies in the
south west, including three FTE police vacancies in Bunbury and one in
Manjimup.
(1) Does the minister wish to correct the answer provided
last Wednesday?
(2) Has the
minister discussed the WA Police Union proposed locality allowance changes with
the Minister for Regional Development and/or the Treasurer, and what was the
outcome of those discussions?
(3) Will the
government implement the proposed locality allowance changes to address
long-term police vacancies in the south west?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

AnswerView source ↗

On behalf of the Minister for Police, I thank the honourable
member for some notice of this question.
(1) No.
However, since providing the answer to question without notice 527, the vacancy
numbers have changed. Bunbury now has an additional vacancy to take it to four,
Australind remains at three, Collie has two and Manjimup now has an additional
vacancy to make it two, giving a total of 11 vacancies across the district.
(2)–(4)
Discussions regarding attraction and retention requirements for police officers
in the south west are ongoing.
