I refer to the Premier’s statement today that the Minister for Justice intends to introduce legislation to correct the Community Protection (Offender Reporting) Act 2004, which in its current form may allow people in possession of child pornography to escape having their name recorded on the sex offender register. On what date does the minister intend to introduce to this house the Censorship Act amendment bill, which will presumably fix this problem? Mr J.B. D’ORAZIO

I will introduce the legislation as quickly as possible. It is currently at the printing stage. It has been given priority. I intend to do it as quickly as possible. It will be retrospective to the starting date and in the interim the pick-up core clause in the other legislation will make sure that nobody will get through the net.
