In the light of well documented increased health needs for the town of Newman, I ask:

(b) if no funds are currently to be allocated, what is the reason for the continued delay?

(a) An extensive Service Planning exercise for Newman Hospital and the surrounding district has been undertaken.
The Service Planning exercise identified that the provision of effective Emergency Department (ED) services and primary care services are key priority services required for the community of Newman and surrounds. In support of this an upgrade of the hospital's ED is currently underway.
This upgrade will increase the number of treatment bays from two to three; increase the number of resuscitation bays from one to two; improve ED Triage capability; and improve patient waiting areas through re-modelling works to the existing facility. An upgrade to the hospital's X-ray Department has recently been completed.
(b) Not applicable.
