GNANGARA MOUND AQUIFER — WATER EXTRACTION AUDIT REPORT
(1) Is the minister aware that an independent audit for the Department of Environment and Conservation of compliance reports on the environmental management of groundwater extraction from the Gnangara groundwater mound found that too much water was being extracted from the mound, leading to stress on the ecology of local wetlands and a general shrinking of the mound? (2) Further, is the minister aware that the report recommended that the Minister for Environment assume responsibility for approving allocations from the aquifer? (3) Given that protection of the environment has been severely compromised by the practices of the Department of Water, will the minister take responsibility for approving allocations in line with the recommendations of the audit? Hon DONNA FARAGHER
