I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Minister for Police and Emergency Services has supplied the following answer. (1)-(2) Police rosters are aligned to train operating times and the number of officers on a particular rail line vary throughout the shifts depending on the operational requirements and the activities that are undertaken in concert with the police districts. The rail units utilise intelligence to plan their activities and targeted operations are initiated according to identified crime trends or patterns of offending. Western Australia Police advise that due to operational sensitivities, specific information relating to the staffing levels of individual police stations or units is not released. Resources are principally allocated at a district divisional level and district divisional superintendents deploy these resources to provide the best possible policing service to meet operational requirements and demands, premised on community needs and expectations. There are 48 officers deployed to the Perth rail network. The Perth rail unit polices the northern, Armadale, Midland, and Fremantle lines.
