Based on 2011 Census responses:
(a) Of the people who live in the central sub-region (quadrant 1):
(i) 31,914 work in the CBD;
(ii) 10,997 use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 15,304 use a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD;
(b) Of the people who live in the central sub-region (quadrant 2):
(i) 15,750 work in the CBD;
(ii) 4,855 use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 6,412 use a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD;
(c) Of the people who live in the central sub-region (quadrant 3):
(i) 10,182 work in the CBD;
(ii) 4,408 use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 4,363 use a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD;
(d) Of the people who live in the central sub-region (quadrant 4):
(i) 17,931 work in the CBD;
(ii) 8,014 use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 7,349 use a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD;
(e) Of the people who live in the North East outer sub-region:
(i) 9,072 work in the CBD;
(ii) 3,260 use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 4,615 use a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD;
(f) Of the people who live in the South East outer sub-region:
(i) 7,889 work in the CBD;
(ii) 4,081use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 2,812 use a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD;
(g) Of the people who live in the North West outer sub-region:
(i) 20,132 work in the CBD;
(ii) 9,784 use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 7,882 used a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD; and
(h) Of the people who live in the South West outer sub-region:
(i) 8,434 work in the CBD;
(ii) 4,967 use public transport to commute to the CBD; and
(iii) 2,375 use a private motor vehicle to commute to the CBD.
Note:
The above response is based on 2011 Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census responses (figures have not been adjusted for undercount).
ABS place of work data is only readily available at Local Government Area level and therefore the City of Perth local government area has been used as the place of work destination to approximate the central business district.
Public transport numbers include workers who used a combination of private and public transport to travel to their place of work. Private vehicles include taxis.
Place of Work (ie the City of Perth) relates to where the person worked in the week prior to Census Night. Applicable to employed persons aged 15 years and over.
People in each quadrant or sub-region who have not been grouped into the categories of private vehicle use or public transport use answered: walked to work, worked at home, cycled, did not go to work, not stated or other.
(a) Of the people who live in the central sub-region (quadrant 1):
