Sexual assault—Statistics
609. Hon Jess Beckerling to the minister representing the Minister for Women:
My question is to
the minister representing the Minister for Health.
I refer to the
release of the latest Western Australia Police Force crime statistics, showing
a rise in incidents of sexual assault.
(1) How much did the government spend each year
for the past three years on public education campaigns about sexual violence?
(2) How does the government measure the success of
those campaigns?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. Remember, the question was
redirected to me as the minister representing the Minister for Women, so the
following response has been provided by the Minister for Women.
(1)–(2) Sexual violence and sexual assault
are pervasive and deeply harmful issues that demand a coordinated
whole-of-community response. The Cook Labor government is steadfast in its
commitment to preventing and responding to these issues, as demonstrated by the
delivery of the respectful relationships program led by the Minister for
Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence. Government efforts to address
sexual violence span a number of agencies and include education in schools,
services, community grants, research, workplace guidance and public campaigns.
Evaluation measures differ according to the agency and the nature of the
initiative.
