I refer to your statement in the Legislative Assembly on 14 June 2016, that in 2008 ‘some 15 Aboriginal people were engaged in employment for conservation outcomes on country’, and I ask: (a) which Government agency engaged each of the 15 Aboriginal people; (b) if any of the 15 Aboriginal people were engaged by non-government organisations, but the cost covered by Government, which organisations engaged the 15 Aboriginal people, and how much did the WA Government pay to each organisations for the exclusive use for the employment of Aboriginal people to deliver conservation outcomes on their own country; (c) how much was spent by the WA Government in 2008 engaging the 15 Aboriginal people; and (d) on what country were the Aboriginal people employed?

(a) The Department of Parks and Wildlife employed a total of 18 Aboriginal staff across the Kimberley Region in 2008. Of these 18 staff, a total of 12 people were working on their own country.
(b) Not applicable.
(c) $159,111 was spent in 2007-08 by Parks and Wildlife for the employment of the 12 Aboriginal staff working on their country. Note that the Miriuwung Gajerrong joint management program had only recently commenced, resulting in a small amount of salary expenditure only by 30 June 2008.
(d) On Bunuba, Yawuru and Miriuwung Gajerrong country.
