Housing Australia Future Fund—Investment partnership
1173. Hon Phil Twiss to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Planning and Lands:
I refer to the joint
media statement on 1 December 2024 and to comments regarding a "landmark"
new partnership through the Albanese government's Housing Australia Future
Fund, an agency currently facing allegations of incompetence and bullying and
described as a "dysfunctional hellhole".
(1) Given the minister's government promise to
directly contract with builders to deliver 21 new social and affordable housing
projects near Metronet stations through the future fund, how many of these have
now been completed a year later?
(2) How many of these 21 projects have tenants
living in them a year later?
(3) What was the total cost of these 21 projects?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following on
behalf of the Minister for Planning and Lands.
(1)–(3) The Housing Australia Future Fund
has been acknowledged by the sector, both private developers and not-for-profit
entities, as a transformative investment framework that will see the delivery
of social housing and affordable housing for the long term, unlike the
short-term vision of the former Liberal–National federal government,
which cut funding for social housing and homelessness. The member seems unaware
of planning and building timeframes. The minister is happy to coordinate a
briefing should the member wish.
