aquaculture bill
I refer to the proposed aquaculture bill. (1) Does the minister support an aquaculture bill? (2) If yes to (1), what is the current status of the aquaculture bill, and when will it be introduced in Parliament? (3) If no to (1), why not? Hon NORMAN MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of the question. (1)-(3) I support the provision of an appropriate legislative environment for the development and management of the aquaculture industry in Western Australia. My view is that this can be achieved whether we have a separate aquaculture act or not. The Department of Fisheries has been working on possible provisions to facilitate the development of a world-scale aquaculture industry in Western Australia. The aquaculture sector has been consulted on this issue, with preliminary responses suggesting support for provisions being incorporated into the Fish Resources Management Act during the 2009 spring session of Parliament.
