Judicial commission
263. Hon Nick Goiran to the parliamentary secretary representing the Attorney
General:
I refer to the
report in the Geraldton Guardian on 6 May
2025 that establishing a judicial commission in WA was a priority, according to
the state government, when legislation was being drafted as a priority.
(1) Have any instructions been given in this new
term of government to Parliamentary Counsel to draft a bill to establish a
judicial commission?
(2) If no to (1), how does the Attorney General
reconcile that with the media report?
(3) Is it the Attorney's
intention to introduce such a bill in this calendar year?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The answer has been provided
to me by the Attorney General.
(1)–(3) The drafting of bills is a
decision of cabinet and is cabinet-in-confidence.
Hon Tjorn Sibma interjected.
The President: Hon Tjorn Sibma.
