GOLD
CORPORATION — LEADERSHIP
605. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I refer to revelations over recent months surrounding
governance failures at Gold Corporation and the many failings that were
occurring while the Premier was the responsible minister for the organisation.
Given that the current minister stated on 20 September
that the Premier was worried about the information coming from the Gold
Corporation leadership, how is it possible that the Premier was unaware of the
substantial failures on his watch?

I am unaware of what the
member has referred to the minister saying, but my recollection of events is
that the analysis or what have you of Gold Corporation is that they are
not probity issues. They are issues of failing to comply with some
international rules, but there are no probity failures by the administration.
There is no corruption or anything of that nature. It is just some
administrative requirements for international trading have not been met, but I am
sure they will be. The member might recall that there was a change of the
chairperson of Gold Corporation and there was some criticism of that by people,
but the member may now understand why that occurred.
