PERTH FREIGHT LINK — DOCUMENTS'
RELEASE — SENATE MOTION
573. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the Minister for
Transport:
I have a supplementary question. Can
the minister explain why the director general for Transport has raised
significant objections, and does the minister agree with not releasing these
key documents to the Australian public?

AnswerView source ↗

I thought I had answered that
question. We are in contractual negotiations, and we are not going to do
anything that might put the state in a worse position than what could be
achieved out of good, strong negotiations. This is a fantastic project.
Several members interjected.
Mr
D.C. NALDER : Here we go. We now have the member for Victoria Park jumping
up and down. I just heard the member for Victoria Park. Here is a man who I
hope, with the member for West Swan, has apologised to his colleagues about the
Cookie Monster episode.
Mr B.S. Wyatt interjected.
Mr D.C. NALDER : I
would love to see him get up and apologise to the whole Parliament for bringing
it into disrepute. Goodness me!
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Members! Thank you very much.
Mr D.C. NALDER :
When it comes to the freight link, I have apologised to the residents of
Palmyra.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Albany, I call you to order for the first time. We have
had a very good run today, member for Albany.
Mr
D.C. NALDER : I have apologised publically for the disruption that has been
caused and the concern that has resulted because I want to explore a different
option of how to get the freight link to the port. I apologise for that, but
one of the things that the opposition seems to forget is that the exploration
of Leach Highway and High Street as an option for the freight link was
initiated by Alannah MacTiernan. The opposition seems to forget that. I do not
like that route and I am trying to see whether we can do something better for
the community that will not disrupt the community. I am working through that
process and will continue to do so.
