MCKINSEY RECOVERY AND TRANSFORMATION SERVICES — CONTRACTS
812. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the
Minister for Energy:
I have a supplementary question. What is the value of
contracts between Synergy and McKinsey and the Public Utilities Office and
McKinsey, which are in addition to the Western Power contract?

AnswerView source ↗

I have no idea. I am not informed that the Public Utilities
Office has any relationship with McKinsey Recovery and Transformation Services
consultancy or otherwise. The member asked the question, but there is no money
if there is no relationship in contract the last I heard. As to Synergy,
McKinsey is very intimately involved in driving efficiencies in the combined
Synergy. To date, we have booked $900 million in savings over the forward
estimates, trying to cut costs out of the system that the opposition's
failed reform put in there. But members opposite can stand up and criticise us
for fixing up their mess, which is what we are doing. McKinsey is consulting to
Synergy and to Western Power. It is their choices and put a question as to the
exact sum.
