I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Funding of $7.61 million has
been allocated for the three-year pilot.
(2) The sum of
$1.3 million is from a reallocation of funds from the Aboriginal kindergarten
program. The remainder comes from a reallocation of funding within the
department, including national partnership funding.
(3) Site-by-site
consultation with the 37 identified KindiLink locations is currently underway.
This is in addition to the consultation that occurred with the education
subcommittee of the Aboriginal Affairs Coordinating Committee during 2013 and
2014.
I will provide some clarity behind
that. One of the cabinet subcommittee's key areas of interest was
Aboriginal education. We went through a host of consultation processes,
including the Roebourne review, in looking at a raft of different services
being delivered in Roebourne and in other areas of the state to ensure that the
identified areas specifically needed those early intervention points. The
cabinet subcommittee made this recommendation to cabinet; it came from the
cabinet subcommittee process.
