I refer to a report titled ‘Golden Mile Social Impact Study’ produced by Mitchell McCotter June 1991 prepared for the Steering Committee for the Golden Mile Social Impact Study and a written response from Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) which I understand may have been included as a Appendix -
(1) Is it correct that part of KCGM’s written response made in relation to the above referred report states ‘Mining: A number of the concerns expressed are unfounded as the
Mining Act
imposed 100 metre exclusion zone provides protection to inhabited residences. This expressly states that written permission of the occupier must be given before mining can be carried out within this distance. As an additional coverage, mining cannot be undertaken within a gazetted townsite without the written consent of the Minister.’?
(2) If no to (1), can the Minister specifically state what was stated in KCGM’s written submission?
(3) Is it correct that the idea of the report or study arose after residents in the Williamstown and Hainault Road areas had approached the State Government with concerns about how they were being affected by local mining activities such as KCGM’s Superpit along with other mining operations such as the Lucknow Pit and Hidden Secret?
(4) If no to (3), can the Minister explain how the idea of the report or study arose?
(5) Was it stated in the consultants brief that ‘The study will need to examine this broad range of community concerns. It will also need to recommend solutions to these concerns which will allow mining along the Golden Mile to operate in a manner that is socially acceptable to the affected communities’?
(6) If no to (5), will the Minister table an entire copy of the consultants brief?
