The Employment Protection arm of the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection advises:
(1) The Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 (OSH regulations) cover gas cylinders (including SCUBA diving tanks) and their use in the workplace. Regulations 4.43 of the OSH regulations references Australian Standard 2030.1 -1999
The verification, filling, inspection, testing and maintenance of cylinders for storage and transport of compressed gases, Part 1: Cylinders for compressed gases other than acetylene
(AS 2030). AS 2030 stipulates the periodic inspection intervals for the testing of SCUBA diving tanks.
(2) As stated in AS 2030, both steel and aluminimum SCUBA tanks are to be tested at intervals of no more that 1 year. The test is to be performed by a certificated test station.
