Can the minister explain why departmental inspectors charged with the task of carrying out environmental safety compliance inspections at the port of Esperance in regard to the export of lead by Magellan Metals failed to notice that the company was in breach of its lead export licence conditions because they were not appropriately clothed for the task? While the parliamentary inquiry is still undertaking public hearings and collecting evidence, it is not appropriate to comment about matters that are being examined as part of the inquiry. The Department of Environment and Conservation is cooperating with the inquiry.
