WA Parliamentary Question on Notice regarding visitor numbers from and outbound travel from China between 2000-2006. Data for 2006 was unavailable as the year was still in progress. Data on Chinese visitors to WA had a high margin of error, so a two-year rolling average was used.

Available data from the Tourism Research Australia International Visitor Survey on visitor numbers from China is subject to a relatively high margin of error due to the size of the sample collected. To reduce the margin of error, a two year rolling average has been used from 2000 and 2001 through to 2004 and 2005. The year 2006 is still in progress data will not be available until sometime after 31 December 2006. (2) As with the previous request, it is not possible to fulfil the Member's request for 2006 outbound travel numbers from China, as the year 2006 is still in progress. The figures outlined below are the total number of departures from China each year from 2000 to 2005. However, these figures are not an accurate indication of the outbound long haul holiday traveller market as the figures include large numbers of business and short haul travellers. 2000 10,472,000* 2001 12,133,000* 2002 16,602,000 2003 20,222,000 2004 28,853,000 2005 31,026,000 Sources: *2000 - 2001 data is from the World Tourism Organization, Basic Indicators. 2002 - 2005 data is from the Pacific Asia Travel Association.
