(a) In April 2018, I requested the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to inquire into and report on the implementation conditions in MS 800, specifically Condition 26 which relates to the reservoir carbon dioxide injection system. The inquiry was initiated after it became apparent that the starting point for the Carbon Dioxide Injection System could not easily be determined.
In September 2019, the EPA completed its inquiry and published Report No.1649 providing its advice and recommendations on the starting point for the Carbon Dioxide Injection System.
In accordance with section 45 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986, I am now undertaking consultation on the EPA’s Report with other decision-making Ministers. As this process has not been finalised, a breakdown of the carbon dioxide removed, injected and vented to the atmosphere is not able to be provided.
