MIDLAND PUBLIC HOSPITAL — MATERNAL AND FOETAL SCREENING
776. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the
minister representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to maternal and foetal
screening at St John of God Midland Public Hospital.
(1) Are all
pregnant public patients being offered free of charge first trimester combined
blood and ultrasound screening to assess risks of foetal abnormalities; and, if
not, why not?
(2) Are those who
return results with high risks of foetal abnormalities being offered chorionic
villus screening or amniocentesis free of charge at the hospital or are they
being referred elsewhere?
(3) Are all
pregnant public patients being offered free of charge second trimester foetal
anatomy screening and bloods to check for neural tube defects such as spina
bifida et cetera; and, if not, why not?
(4) Is the
minister aware of some reports from patients being told to get these tests and
scans done elsewhere?
The PRESIDENT : The Minister for Planning is in
demand today.

response to (3), St John of God Midland Public Hospital provides second
trimester foetal anatomy screening and blood tests. St John of God Midland
Public Hospital does not offer CVS or amniocentesis, and patients are referred
to King Edward Memorial Hospital for these tests.
