For each Government department or agency under the Minister’s control, including the ministerial office, I ask whether media monitoring services are provided; and
(a) if yes, which firm or firms currently provide a media monitoring service;
(b) if yes, what is the cost of the contract/s;
(c) if yes, since 23 September 2008 how much has been paid for media monitoring services;
(d) if yes, what is the duration of the contract(s); and
(e) if yes, when did the contract(s) commence?

Public Transport Authority
(a) Yes, Media Monitors (WA) Pty Ltd.
(b) The maximum value of the contract is $350 000 over five years. However the Public Transport Authority expects to spend approximately $200 000.
(c) Between 1 May 2009 and 21 May 2010, $43 465.31 (including GST) has been paid for media monitoring services.
(d) The contract term is three years with the option of two separate one year extensions.
(e) The contact commenced on 9 October 2008.
Main Roads
(a) Yes, Media Monitors Pty Ltd.
(b) The current contract, awarded 22 December 2009 is for $300 000 over three years.
(c)-(e) Due to the term of the contracts it is not possible to provide figures from the previous contract, negotiated with the previous Government, which expired on 18 December 2009. However, expenditure on the current contract from 22 December 2009 to 21 May 2010 is $16 952.
Disability Services Commission
(a) Yes, Media Monitors.
(b) The current contract cost is fixed price at $12 000 p.a. (GST included).
(c) $11 036 (ex GST) 1 May 2009 to 21 May 2010.
(d) One year.
(e) The contract with Media Monitors was negotiated with the previous Government.
Department of Transport
(a) Yes, Media Monitors.
(b) This contract was originally for the Department for Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) in the amount of $360 000, from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2012.
(c) Since 1 May 2009 to 21 May 2010 $34 033.10.
(d) Three years.
(e) 1 July 2009.
Ministerial Office
As of 1 January 2010, the Government Media Office ceased to operate in a move to streamline decision making and coordination across portfolios. As part of these changes, responsibility for daily Media Monitoring Services for Ministers and some government agencies has been transferred to the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
