SOUTH COAST HIGHWAY — SAFETY CONCERNS —
MUNGLINUP
1388. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to issues raised regarding
the safety of South Coast Highway east of the township of Munglinup, as raised
with Main Roads WA by the Munglinup Community Group.
(1) Can the
minister provide details of the line marking that was undertaken on South Coast
Highway during February 2023 in response to the safety concerns by the MCG?
(2) Can the
minister confirm the date on which a further review of the location of South
Coast Highway in question will be undertaken by Main Roads?
(3) Has a full
road safety and design audit been undertaken of that portion of South Coast
Highway to ascertain its priority for consideration of a passing lane in the
context of the state road network?

I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide this
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1) An additional barrier line to restrict overtaking
was installed on a 600-metre section east of the Munglinup Bridge in
February 2023.
(2) A review of line marking between
Munglinup and Esperance was completed in October 2023.
(3) There are two
passing lanes in proximity of Young River. The need for any additional passing
lanes will be assessed on multiple criteria including traffic type and volume,
and crash history.
