CHEEDITHA COMMUNITY — ROEBOURNE RELOCATION
774. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Regional Development :
I refer to the NITV—National
Indigenous Television— article entitled ''Confusion, concern and
fear over remote communities plan'', published online on 19 July 2016.
(1) Was the
community of Cheeditha offered money to relocate to Roebourne?
(2) If yes to (1), when, why, by
whom and on whose authority?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The
Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation and the WA state government engaged in
early discussions about possible government support that would be available to
assist the community to relocate to Roebourne, as they had expressed a desire
to do so. In August 2015, YAC informed the state government that Cheeditha
residents chose not to relocate and that decision was respected.
(2) Not applicable.
