The Western Australian Police Force advised;
(a) Based on infringements issued, police monitored speed with speed detection equipment in 40km/h school zones on at least 3 693 occasions in 2017 and 3 864 occasions in 2018.
(b) In 2017 there were 35 882 infringements issued for speeding in school speed zones, not including infringements withdrawn or cancelled. School speed zones were determined by matching the location of the infringement with the school address. In 2018, based on the same criteria, there were 37 233 infringements.
(c) The highest speed detected was 93 km/h on Sydenham St, near Leake St, Belmont.
(d) In 2017 the five sites with the highest number of issued infringements were Frederick Irwin Anglican School/Assumption Catholic Primary (same school speed zone), St. John’s Primary School, Albany Primary School/ Albany Senior High School (same school speed zone), Moerlina School/Quintilian School (same school speed zone) and North Lake Senior Campus.
In 2018 the five sites were St. John’s Primary School, Frederick Irwin Anglican School/Assumption Catholic Primary (same school speed zone), St. Francis Xavier Primary School, Geraldton Senior High School, and Albany Primary School/ Albany Senior High School (same school speed zone).
(e) In January 2019 there were 43 infringements. In February 2019 there were 2 250.
