MIDLAND
PUBLIC HOSPITAL
1311. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the new
Midland Public Hospital and note that during the course of this year it has
started to be referred to as ''St John of God Midland Public Hospital''.
(1) Has St John of
God Health Care been given naming rights to the public hospital; and, if so,
why?
(2) Did St John of God pay for the naming
rights; and, if so, what was the amount to obtain the naming rights?
(3) If no to (2),
why not?
(4) Is the government considering selling or
gifting the naming rights to any other privately run public hospitals?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
I am sure the member will agree with
the members for East Metropolitan Region on this side of the house that we are
delighted to have this new hospital opening tomorrow.
Hon Helen Morton : O wned and operated by St John of
God.
Hon ALYSSA HAYDEN : That is right; it is a public
hospital that is owned and operated by St John of God. I would also like to say
that, along with my east metropolitan colleagues on this side, the member for
Midland, Hon Michelle Roberts, will be joining us for the opening as a strong
supporter of St John of God public hospital. I just wish members on the other
side of this chamber felt as strongly as their lower house member does about
this new fantastic hospital for their region.
The PRESIDENT : Order! That was a very interesting
statement, but let us get to the answer.
Hon ALYSSA HAYDEN : It is a fact, Mr President.
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT : The parliamentary secretary has the
call.
Hon ALYSSA HAYDEN : The answer reads —
(1) No. The naming of the facility ''St
John of God Midland Public Hospital'' simply reflects the partnership
between St John of God Health Care and the state for the construction and
operation of the new facility.
(2) No.
(3) Refer to (1).
(4) No.
