Thirteen shires and cities in the South West Region that run public swimming pools receive a subsidy of $3 000 to help allay the losses accrued by owning such a facility. This subsidy has not been increased for over 40 years, and they would like to know who is the minister responsible for augmenting this funding. I was told it was Hon Eric Ripper. Hon Eric Ripper referred me to Hon Tom Stephens, and Hon Tom Stephens referred me back to Hon Eric Ripper. Who is responsible for the swimming pool subsidy scheme, and what can be done about gaining an increase in the allowance? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. First, it is not I. The Treasurer has provided me with this response - Hon Kim Chance: Tom Stephens. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: No, the response is not “Ask Tom Stephens.” The response states - Swimming pool subsidies are the Treasurer’s responsibility and are paid from a Treasury-administered item. Like all subsidies, they are reviewed as part of the annual budget process.
