QuestionView source ↗

I refer to reports that the Government’s preferred William Street option for the southern rail link’s entry into the central business district will require the rail line to be sunk along the city foreshore between the Narrows Bridge and William Street, and ask - (1) Given the minister’s admission in this House on 12 March 2002 that the city options considered by the Perth City Rail Advisory Committee “will be somewhat more expensive than those which we had previously considered”, does she have any idea of the cost of sinking the rail line along the city foreshore between the Narrows Bridge and William Street? (2) If so, will the minister advise what that additional cost estimate will be? Ms MacTIERNAN

AnswerView source ↗

I am expecting the chairman of the Perth City Rail Advisory Committee to return to Perth on Thursday or Friday from the aborted National Road Transport Commission meeting that the National Party minister has cancelled. When he does, I anticipate I will be presented with that report, and will have a clearer idea of the recommended proposals. They will then go to Cabinet and, when Cabinet makes a decision, I will be more than happy to provide the member for Carine with full information.
