STANLEY ROAD WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY
880. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
I refer to the Stanley Road Waste
Management Facility operated by the Bunbury Harvey Regional Council.
(1) Is this facility currently being
used for landfill of waste; and, if not, when did this cease?
(2) If no to (1), where is the waste
going now and how is it being managed?
(3) Are general
waste and recyclable materials being separated as part of any new management
system?
(4) If yes to (3), what percentage
of the waste is being recycled?

I
thank the Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question. This
information is current as at 20 September.
(1) No. Landfilling ceased on 25 March
2022.
(2) I understand that residual municipal waste is
still received at the Stanley Road Waste Management Facility and
transferred to the Banksia Road Waste Management Facility in Dardanup for
burial.
(3) The City of Bunbury and the Shire of Harvey
provide a three-bin waste service to their ratepayers, including a commingled
recycling bin. Recyclable waste is taken to a materials recycling facility in
Bibra Lake. I am not aware of a new management system for recyclables at
the Stanley Road Waste Management Facility.
(4) It is 65 to 70 per cent, based on the Bunbury
Harvey Regional Council's waste data submission for 2021–22.
