SENIORS — VEHICLE LICENCE CONCESSIONS
499. Ms M.M. QUIRK to the Minister for
Transport:
I refer to the savage cuts the
minister's government is imposing on the seniors of Western Australia
in combination with the dramatic increase in the cost of living they are
experiencing and to his comment last week that seniors are heavily subsidised.
When the minister said that seniors are heavily subsidised, was the minister
referring to the vehicle licence concessions that he will completely remove as
of next week?

I will speak directly about public
transport for seniors, which is free and continues to be free, and is heavily
subsidised for seniors.
Dr
A.D. Buti interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Armadale, I call you to order for the third time.
Mr
M.P. Murray interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Excuse me, member for Collie–Preston! The member for
Armadale is on three calls.
Mr
D.C. NALDER : The Minister for Seniors and Volunteering actually shared with
everybody the chart of the level of concessions that this state provides. There
is no doubt that we are equal to Queensland insofar as being generous with
seniors' provisions and discounts. The opportunity still exists for
seniors to catch a bus to the train for free.
Mr
M.P. Murray interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Collie–Preston, I call you to order for the
first time. Member for Girrawheen, you are on two calls; you will get a
supplementary question, so just bide your time.
Mr
D.C. NALDER : They are talking about discounts to the seniors and I believe
that we have been very generous.
