CANNABIS — LEGALISATION
1250. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer the Premier to a recent
paper published by academics employed by the Irish Health Research Board in
Dublin, which looked at trends in public attitudes towards recreational
cannabis legalisation and suggests that support in that jurisdiction had grown
by a third—from 19.1 per cent in 2007 to 29.9 per cent in 2020.
Will
the Cook government engage in any consultation ahead of the next election to
better understand the developing public view with regards to cannabis
here in Western Australia; and, if not, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
The state government has no plans to
legalise recreational cannabis. The state government remains committed to
ensuring there is access to medicinal cannabis for people with medical needs.
This includes enabling general practitioners to prescribe medicinal cannabis to
patients.
