NORTHERN RAIL LINE — BUTLER–YANCHEP
EXTENSION
243. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the minister
representing the Minister for Planning:
I refer to extension of the rail
line from Butler to Yanchep.
(1) Does the
Minister for Planning agree that the extension will support the development of
Yanchep city centre, with a station at its centre?
(2) Does the
minister agree that the fast-tracking of this line will provide developers with
the certainty they need to proceed with higher density development?
(3) If no to (1)
or (2), what impact does the timing of this rail extension have on the
development of the northern corridor of Perth?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) I understand
the planning being undertaken for Yanchep city centre has a focus on
transit-oriented development with a train station at its core.
(2) Higher
density residential and commercial development around train stations is one of
the important aspects of transit-oriented developments. The government supports
this principle, which is demonstrated by the planning currently being
undertaken for the Forrestfield–Airport Link.
(3) Not applicable.
