DERBY
COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICE
1297. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the community health service in Derby.
(1) Can the minister confirm whether the building in which
the service is located contains asbestos?
(2) Is the minister aware that the building is in poor
condition?
(3) Does the government have any plans to move the service;
and, if yes, when?
(4) Did WACHS
refuse a donation of demountable buildings so that the service could be moved;
and, if so, why?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes, the building does contain
asbestos.
(2) Yes.
(3) The WA
Country Health Service advises that the building is old and not fit for
purpose, but that asbestos is not an issue. Any risks to staff are being
managed appropriately and all maintenance requests are dealt with as a high
priority. A business case has been developed for capital funding to replace the
building. Consideration is being given to placing the services within Derby
Hospital as an interim measure.
(4) WACHS advises
that there have been discussions regarding the possible use of a demountable
building from Curtin Detention Centre. However, it was assessed that the
building was not a viable option.
