I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1)–(2) No.
(3) Section 26
of the Taxi Act 1994 prohibits a person from operating as a taxi dispatch
service without being registered. Section 29 of the Taxi Act 1994 empowers the
director general to impose conditions in relation to various matters, such as
fare schedules and record keeping.
(4) On-demand
transport services have historically been regulated separately based on whether
they operate in the metropolitan area or country areas. This was based on the
different requirements of these areas. Taxi services within the Perth taxi
control area are regulated under the Taxi Act 1994, whereas country taxis and
other vehicles used for hire and reward outside the Perth taxi control area are
regulated under the Transport Co-ordination Act 1966.
