TRANSPORT — EFFICIENCY INITIATIVES
959. Mr I.C. BLAYNEY to the
Minister for Transport:
The transport industry makes a significant contribution to
our stateXXX ###XXXs economy. Can the minister please
update the house on the efficiency initiatives the government has taken in the
last three years to assist the transport industry in Western Australia?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for his question and his interest
particularly in heavy vehicles within the transport portfolio. As many members
would be aware, in 2012 Main Roads Western Australia consolidated the prime
mover trailer combination and truck trailer combination permits onto a gazette
notice. This consolidated the $50 permit fee, which is a saving of about $250 000
a year to the industry, in addition to removing the permit application renewal
initialling process. Main Roads is continuing to investigate more opportunities
to identify and implement efficiencies for the industry. Main Roads is
currently in the process of developing three class-1 notices. These notices
will replace existing permits for special purpose vehicles, agricultural
vehicles and over-size loads. We expect to have this available to industry by
early 2016. In real terms, this will mean a cost saving in excess of $500 000 a
year for the transport industry, and the removal of the permit application
renewal initialling process. These are significant savings and efficiencies for
one of our major industry groups. I will keep encouraging Main Roads to roll
out its efficiencies for industry to get government out of the way and let
business grow and prosper.
