MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES - BUSSELTON
(1) Will the new hospital planned for Busselton have any dedicated psychiatric beds? (2) Are there plans to provide ongoing government-funded psychiatrist services in Busselton? I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Patients with mild to moderate mental illness are currently, and will continue to be, admitted to the Busselton District Hospital. In addition, patients will also be able to be transferred - when clinical need determines it necessary - to the Bunbury Regional Hospital acute psychiatric unit, which is being expanded from 15 to 33 beds. (2) Psychiatric services are currently provided by the Busselton mental health clinic, and this will continue. (3) Busselton District Hospital staff currently receive, and will continue to receive, ongoing support and training from community mental health nurses.
