HOSPITALS — CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR SHUTDOWN
1239. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the minister
representing the Minister for Health:
(1) What are the
proposed dates for the Christmas–New Year arrangements—reduced
services period—listed by hospital for all public hospitals and
privately operated public hospitals in the metropolitan area?
(2) What are the details and/or
reasons for any shutdown longer than two weeks?
(3) What are the
details of any WA Country Health Service hospitals with a Christmas–New
Year shutdown of longer than two weeks and what are the dates on which the
services are impacted?

Christmas-New Year arrangements are to be determined pending confirmation of
the Perth Children's Hospital opening.
Fiona Stanley
Hospital:

Elective Surgery – reduced activity for the period 24 December 2016
to 15 January 2017

Outpatient Services – reduced activity for the period 24 December
2016 to 08 January 2017
Fremantle Hospital:

Elective Surgery – reduced activity for the period 24 December 2016
to 15 January 2017

Outpatient Services – reduced activity for the period 24 December
2016 to 08 January 2017
Rockingham
General Hospital:

Elective Surgery – closure for the period 23 December 2016 to 2
January 2017 inclusive. The operating suite will provide an on call 24/7
service for obstetric emergencies, along with availability for elective
caesarean section and sub-acute surgical cases on Non Public Holiday days over
this period. Day Procedure Unit will also close during this above period;
inpatient services on the Multi Stay Surgical Unit will reduce but will be
available to meet emergency demand on non-public holiday days during this
period.

Outpatient Services – closed 24 December 2016 to 2 January 2017
inclusive with the following exclusions – General Surgery, Pre
Admission and Fracture clinics.
Peel Health
Campus:

The operating suite and gastroenterology unit will close for elective
procedures from 26 December 2016 until 9 January 2017. The operating suite
will provide an on call service for surgical and obstetric emergencies, along
with availability for elective caesarean section and sub-acute surgical cases
over this period
Royal Perth
Hospital:

Outpatient Clinics will be closed from 23 December 2016 to 8 January 2017.

From 19 December 2016 to 15 January 2017 the number of theatres will be
reduced. Emergency surgery will continue to be provided and other urgent
cases will be undertaken on week days.
Bentley Health
Service:

Theatres and the Day Surgery Unit will be closed between 22 December 2016 and
9 January 2017. Emergency cover will remain as required for caesareans.
Armadale Health Service:

Inpatient services will continue as per normal except for the Surgical Unit
which will reduce to 5 beds from 23 December 2016 until 8 January 2017
(inclusive).

Outpatients including Community Rehabilitation will close from 23 December
2016 to Sunday 8 January 2017 (inclusive) except for Obstetrics and
Gynaecology and the Renal Dialysis Clinic which will continue with normal
service delivery and the Antenatal Midwifery Clinic and Antenatal GP Clinic
which will be closed on public holidays only.
Kalamunda Hospital:

Inpatient services will continue as per normal.

Endoscopy Unit will close from 23 December 2016 to 8 January 2017
(inclusive).
St John of God
Midland Public Hospital:

From 26 December 2016 to 8 January 2017 (inclusive) emergency surgery will be
provided and endoscopy elective lists will be performed every day other than
public holidays.
Sir Charles
Gairdner Hospital

Reduced services from 26 December to 8 January 2017.

All emergency services will continue as normal.

Outpatient clinics, Short Stay Unit and Radiology will be closed from 26
December 2016 and will resume normal business hours on 9 January 2017.
Osborne Park
Hospital

Reduced services from 26 December to 8 January 2017.

Theatre services will be open for non-elective and emergency obstetric
surgery during this time.
King Edward
Memorial Hospital

Outpatient Clinics will be closed from 26 December to 8 January 2017.

Rolling theatre closure will occur between 26 December and 15 January 2017 to
replace theatre lights in three operating theatres. This is not anticipated
to impact emergency or elective surgical throughput or capability.
Joondalup
Health Campus

Public Elective Surgery will be closed from 24 December to 8 January 2017.

Emergency surgery will continue as normal during this time.
(2) Changes to
service provision can occur for a range of reasons, including theatre and
equipment maintenance, management of staff leave, and general preference of
patients to not attend appointments or have elective procedures over the
Christmas–New Year period.
